Brian Orakpo

Entrepreneur, 10 Year NFL Veteran


Brian Orakpo is a ten-year NFL veteran linebacker. Brian began his career with the Washington Redskins after being drafted 13th overall in the 2009 NFL draft. Originally from Houston, Texas, Brian played collegiately at the University of Texas from 2004 to 2008, earning the title of Defensive Freshman of the year and first-team Freshman All-American his first year. Among his many collegiate accolades, Brian counts the 2008 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year Award and the 2008 Lombardi Award, and was a unanimous All-American the same year.

Brian was drafted by the Washington Redskins in the first round of the 2009 NFL draft, tenth overall. He was selected to the 2009 Pro Bowl, one of only 6 rookies to do so, and became the first Redskins rookie to make the Pro Bowl since 1978. He was awarded to two more Pro Bowls during his time with the Redskins. In 2015, Brain signed a four-year contract with the Tennessee Titans, where he was named a defensive captain, along with earning his fourth Pro Bowl nod. He then announced his retirement following the 2018 season.

Brian’s entrepreneurial spirit took hold after his retirement, establishing Gigi’s Cupcakes and Restore Hyper Wellness in Austin, Texas. He is the Founder and Owner of Athlete Connect, the world’s first social media app for athletes that connects those athletes with coaches around the world. His most recent venture is 5 Star eSports Facility, a gaming center that will be coming soon to Austin.

Brian also dedicates time and effort to fundraising for leukemia and lymphoma charities. In 2017, Brian launched the Brian Orakpo Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of underserved children in Austin and Nashville.
